Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, Alex Vallejo began his footballing journey in the U19 youth setup of Alaves, eventually joining the Alaves B side. In January 2012, he joined fellow Segunda División B - Grupo II side Sestao River on loan, where he spent six months gaining valuable first-team experience in a competitive environment.
Ahead of the 2012-13 season, he joined Segunda División B – Grupo III side RCD Mallorca B on a free transfer. He enjoyed regular game time and impressed with his consistency, earning a promotion to the senior team the following season. In the 2013-14 season, he made his senior debut for Mallorca in the Segunda Division against his former club Alaves. He was limited to a handful of appearances, as opportunities with the first team remained limited during the campaign.
During the first half of the 2014-15 season, he featured for Mallorca’s first team in Segunda Division and the Copa del Rey. Later in the season, after falling out of favour with the first team, he played several matches for Mallorca B in Segunda Division B, finishing with nine appearances for the reserve side, before suffering a long-term Cruciate Ligament injury in April 2015.
He returned to competitive football in January 2017, after almost two years on the sidelines. His rehabilitation was gradual, but gradually earning regular minutes helped him regain his confidence. He re-established himself as a regular starter for Mallorca during the second half of the season. In 2017, he joined Cordoba CF after spending five years with Mallorca. Over two seasons, he gradually became a key member of the midfield and established himself as a regular starter.
In August 2019, he joined CF Fuenlabrada for a brief spell, featuring in Segunda Division in the first half of the season. Although his spell was brief, it kept him competing at Spain’s second-tier level before seeking opportunities abroad.
He was without a club from January to October 2020, eventually joining EFL Championship side Huddersfield. The move marked another chapter in his European journey, expanding his experience into English football. It provided valuable exposure to a different style of football and marked his first experience outside Spain.
Ahead of the 2022-23 season, he joined Cypriot club Doxa Katokopia, competing in the Cypriot First Division. This spell in Cyprus further expanded his experience in European football before he moved to Poland midway through the season. He joined Polish side Stal Mielec, where he gained experience in Poland’s top division, the Ekstraklasa.
In 2023, he joined Hungarian club Diósgyőr on a free transfer. He played in the Nemzeti Bajnoksag I, adding another top-flight league to his career. He played a major role for the club, quickly establishing himself as a reliable presence in midfield, becoming an important part of the squad over the next three seasons. Following three successful seasons in Hungary, Vallejo became a free agent this year before completing his move to FC Goa.
