Gokulam Kerala FC Sign Experienced Brazilian Striker Crislan Henrique De Silva Ahead of 2026-27 Season

Gokulam Kerala FC have made a significant move ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Football League season by signing experienced Brazilian forward Crislan Henrique De Silva on a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old striker arrives with an extensive international club career spanning Brazil, Portugal, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia. His experience across multiple footballing environments could prove valuable for Gokulam Kerala as the club looks to recover from a disappointing previous campaign and build a squad capable of competing at a higher level.
The signing also fits into a broader rebuilding project at the club. Gokulam Kerala finished ninth last season with just eight points and will be looking for a significant improvement in their performances and results.
Crislan brings considerable experience to the Gokulam Kerala attack. Born in Teresina, Brazil, the forward has spent much of his career moving between clubs and footballing cultures. His Brazilian career has included spells with Comercial Atlético Clube, River Atlético Clube, Belo Jardim Futebol Clube, Brusque Futebol Clube, Clube Andraus Brasil, Boa Esporte Clube, Club Athletico Paranaense, Clube Náutico Capibaribe and Clube Atlético Penapolense, among others.
He also gained European experience with Portuguese clubs Sporting Clube de Braga and Clube Desportivo de Tondela.
His career in Asia has been equally varied. Crislan has represented Japanese clubs, including Vegalta Sendai, Shimizu S-Pulse and Shonan Bellmare, while he also played for South Korean club Bucheon FC. Further spells in Thailand with Nakhon Ratchasima and Nakhon Si United, along with a stint at Indonesian club Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung, have given him extensive familiarity with Asian football.
That breadth of experience could be particularly useful in adapting quickly to the demands of Indian football.
One of the key reasons behind the signing appears to be Crislan's versatility. The Brazilian can operate centrally as a striker but is also capable of playing from wider attacking positions. His ability to move between positions could give Gokulam Kerala greater flexibility in the final third and allow the coaching staff to alter their attacking structure depending on the opposition.
His game is built around pace and counter-attacking movement. Crislan can drop deeper to participate in the build-up before making forward runs into attacking areas, while his movement away from the central channel can create space for teammates.
That flexibility could help Gokulam Kerala address one of the major requirements of their rebuilding process: creating greater fluidity between midfield and attack. Rather than relying exclusively on a traditional target man, the club will have a forward capable of contributing to transitions and creating movement across the attacking line.
Crislan's arrival is part of a wider attempt by Gokulam Kerala FC to reshape the team. The club has already appointed another Brazilian, Carlos Eduardo Parreira, as head coach. His arrival represents a clear attempt to introduce a new direction following last season's disappointing ninth-place finish.
The combination of a Brazilian coach and an experienced Brazilian forward could allow the club to establish greater tactical continuity. Parreira will now have an experienced attacking option who understands different systems and has played in multiple leagues. His challenge will be to integrate Crislan into the team's tactical structure while maximising his ability to operate across the frontline.
European and Continental Experience
Crislan's experience also includes exposure to European competition, having featured in the UEFA Europa League during his time in Portugal.
That experience, combined with years spent competing in Asia, means the 34-year-old arrives with a level of professional experience that could benefit a squad looking to develop. For Gokulam Kerala, however, the signing is ultimately about what Crislan can produce on the pitch.
The club needs more attacking penetration after a season in which it managed only eight points. Goals, creativity and consistency will be essential if Gokulam Kerala are to move up the table.
The signing of Crislan does not guarantee an immediate turnaround, but it provides Gokulam Kerala with an experienced and versatile attacking option. At 34, his role will extend beyond simply scoring goals. His experience across Brazil, Europe and Asia could also be valuable to younger players within the squad, particularly in understanding the demands of professional football.
With Carlos Eduardo Parreira in charge and Crislan now leading an important part of the attacking rebuild, Gokulam Kerala are clearly targeting a stronger campaign in 2026-27.
After finishing ninth last season, the club has little room for another underwhelming campaign. If Crislan can bring the pace, movement and experience that have defined his career, he could become an important figure in Gokulam Kerala's attempt to regain their competitive edge and continue their longer-term ambition of reaching the Indian Super League.
