India's U-19 women boxers delivered another outstanding performance at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships, assuring eight medals after six more boxers booked their places in the semifinals with impressive victories on Day 5 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Indian contingent enjoyed a highly successful day in the quarterfinals, with dominant performances from Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari, Joyshree Devi, Prachi, Chahat, Gunjan, and Anshika, who all progressed to the last four and guaranteed themselves podium finishes. Although Vanshika and Lakshu fell short in their respective bouts, India's overall performance once again underlined the depth of talent within the country's youth boxing programme.

With eight medals now assured in the U-19 women's competition, India has strengthened its position as one of the standout nations at the continental championships.

India's campaign was led by another commanding display from Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari in the 51kg category. Facing Kazakhstan's Zhadyra Kaltay, Chandrika controlled the contest from the opening round with excellent footwork, clean combinations, and disciplined defence. She consistently dictated the pace of the bout, leaving little opportunity for her opponent to mount a comeback.

Her dominance was reflected in the judges' scorecards as she secured a comprehensive 5-0 unanimous decision, comfortably advancing to the semifinals. The momentum continued in the 54kg division, where Joyshree Devi produced another clinical performance against Kazakhstan's Maral Tolepbergen.

Joyshree showcased her superior ring craft throughout the contest, combining effective movement with accurate punching to keep her opponent on the back foot. Her control across all three rounds earned her another unanimous 5-0 victory, ensuring India's second semifinal berth of the day. Both Chandrika and Joyshree have looked increasingly confident throughout the tournament and will now enter the medal rounds with genuine hopes of competing for gold.

India's winning run continued in the 57kg category through Prachi, who delivered one of the most polished performances of the day. Taking on Uzbekistan's Robiya Ravshanova, Prachi displayed excellent tactical discipline and controlled the bout with sharp counter-attacks and consistent scoring combinations. She prevented her opponent from establishing any rhythm and secured another dominant 5-0 unanimous decision.

The success carried over into the 60kg division, where Chahat produced an equally convincing display against Kazakhstan's Zhasmin Abramyan. Chahat combined aggressive attacking with disciplined defence, repeatedly finding openings while denying her opponent clear scoring opportunities. Her commanding performance also resulted in a 5-0 victory, extending India's impressive run in the quarter-finals.

The performances of Prachi and Chahat highlighted the technical quality and confidence that India's young boxers have displayed throughout the championships.

While several Indian victories came comfortably, two boxers had to work significantly harder to book their semifinal places. In the 48kg category, Gunjan was involved in one of the closest contests of the session against Mongolia's Altanzul Altangadas. Both boxers traded quality combinations in a tightly fought encounter, with the momentum shifting throughout the bout. Gunjan maintained her composure during the crucial exchanges and did enough to edge the contest through a 3-0 split decision, earning a well-deserved place in the semifinals.

Later in the day, Anshika faced Kazakhstan's Altyngul Aimukhan in the 75kg division.

The Indian boxer produced a determined display against a physically strong opponent, relying on disciplined defence and effective counter-punching to gradually build an advantage. Her efforts were rewarded with a 4-1 decision, completing India's sixth quarterfinal victory of the day.

Their victories once again demonstrated the resilience and mental strength within the Indian squad.

India's otherwise dominant day saw two setbacks in the quarterfinals. In the 65kg category, Vanshika faced Uzbekistan's Rushanabonu Isoeva but was unable to find her rhythm before the contest was stopped in the opening round via referee stopped contest (RSC). Meanwhile, Lakshu took on Uzbekistan's Maftuna Yangieva in the 70kg division. Despite a determined effort, the Indian boxer found the Uzbek too strong on the day and eventually lost by a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Although both boxers exited the tournament, reaching the quarterfinal stage provided valuable international experience that will contribute to their long-term development.

With eight medals now assured in the U-19 women's competition, India's performances in Jakarta continue to highlight the remarkable progress made in youth boxing over recent years. The Boxing Federation of India's sustained investment in grassroots development, structured coaching, and international exposure is increasingly producing consistent results across junior and youth categories.

Events such as the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships provide young athletes with the opportunity to compete against some of Asia's strongest boxing nations, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Chinese Taipei.

Success at this level not only builds confidence but also prepares these athletes for future challenges at senior continental championships, world championships, Commonwealth Games, and eventually the Olympic Games.

The championships, being held in Jakarta from July 5 to July 16, now move into the semifinal stage, where India's young boxers will aim to convert their assured medals into appearances in the finals. With Chandrika Bhoresh Pujari, Joyshree Devi, Prachi, Chahat, Gunjan, and Anshika all progressing alongside two previously confirmed semifinalists, India has established itself as one of the strongest teams in the U-19 women's competition.

As the medal rounds begin, the focus shifts from securing podium finishes to chasing continental titles. Given the form shown throughout the tournament, India's young women boxers will enter the semifinals full of confidence and with a realistic opportunity to add multiple gold medals to an already impressive campaign in Jakarta.
