India continued its impressive run at the ITTF-ATTU Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, with Syndrela Das emerging as the standout performer as the country secured its fourth medal of the tournament.

A memorable day for the Indian contingent saw Syndrela Das and Divyanshi Bhowmick storm into the U19 Girls' Doubles final, guaranteeing at least a silver medal, while Syndrela also booked her place in the U19 Girls' Singles semifinals to assure herself of another podium finish.

The latest success adds to India's bronze medals in the U19 Boys' Team and U19 Mixed Doubles events, taking the country's medal tally to four, with hopes of adding gold still alive.

India's biggest breakthrough came in the U19 Girls' Doubles semifinals, where Syndrela Das and Divyanshi Bhowmick produced a spirited comeback to defeat China's Yao Ruixuan and Jiang Yiyi in a thrilling five-game encounter. The Indian pair recovered twice after trailing in the match before completing a 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6 victory.

Showing excellent composure in the deciding game, Syndrela and Divyanshi dominated the closing exchanges to secure one of India's biggest wins of the tournament.

The victory guaranteed India at least a silver medal and booked a place in the championship match against Japan's Aoba Takahashi and Misuzu Takeya, who edged another Chinese pairing in the other semifinal. Earlier in the competition, the Indian duo had ensured themselves a medal by defeating Thailand's Thasita Kanaphong and Pimmada Thongnak 11-6, 13-15, 11-9, 11-8 in the quarterfinals.

Having now defeated pairs from Thailand and China, Syndrela and Divyanshi have demonstrated remarkable consistency against some of Asia's strongest junior combinations.

Syndrela Das also continued her exceptional campaign in the Girls' Singles competition. The Indian paddler, who had already upset China's Yao Ruixuan in the pre-quarterfinals, followed it up with another impressive victory over Japan's Yuna Ojio, the reigning World Youth Championships bronze medallist.

After surrendering a 2-0 lead and falling behind 2-3, Syndrela showed tremendous resilience to win the final two games and complete an 11-5, 11-7, 5-11, 3-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-3 victory.

The comeback secured her place in the semifinals and guaranteed at least a bronze medal. She is now India's only remaining singles contender and will look to extend her remarkable run by challenging for a place in the final.

India also enjoyed encouraging performances in the boys' singles competition. P.B. Abhinand produced one of the most memorable victories of the tournament in the pre-quarterfinals against Chinese Taipei's Yang Hao-en. Despite suffering the unusual setback of his racket handle breaking during the match, Abhinand chose to continue competing instead of immediately changing equipment.

Displaying immense determination, he fought back from a two-game deficit to register an outstanding 11-9, 6-11, 9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 14-12, 11-6 victory. His resilience earned widespread praise from players, coaches and spectators alike.

However, his singles campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals, where he was unable to progress further.

India had earlier secured a bronze medal in the U19 Mixed Doubles event through the top-seeded pairing of Abhinand and Divyanshi Bhowmick. The duo had confirmed their podium finish after defeating China's Tang Yiren and Jiang Yiyi in straight games during the quarterfinals. Their run ended in the semifinals, where Thailand's Thitaphat Preechayan and Kulapassr Vijitviriyagul emerged victorious 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 11-5.

Although disappointed to miss out on the final, the bronze medal represented another strong international result for one of India's most promising junior partnerships.

India's U19 Boys' Doubles campaign concluded in the quarterfinals. The pair of Abhinand and Ankur Bhattacharjee, who had earlier produced an impressive victory over China's Zhai Jiale and Zhou Guanhong, were eventually defeated by Malaysia's Im Jin Zhen and Lai Yong Han. In the girls' singles competition, Divyanshi Bhowmick saw her impressive run end in the quarterfinals after several strong performances earlier in the tournament.

Meanwhile, M. Hansini bowed out after a closely contested seven-game battle against Chinese Taipei's Wu Ying Syuan, while Ankholika Chakraborty exited in the U15 Girls' Round of 16.

With one silver medal already guaranteed through Syndrela Das and Divyanshi Bhowmick in the Girls' Doubles and Syndrela still alive in the Girls' Singles, India now has an opportunity to finish the championships with a gold medal. The performances in Bangkok once again underline the rapid progress of India's junior table tennis programme. Victories over players and pairs from China, Japan and Chinese Taipei—countries traditionally dominant in the sport—demonstrate the growing confidence and quality within the Indian contingent.

With four medals already secured and the biggest matches still to come, India's young paddlers have already delivered one of the country's most successful campaigns at the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships, while also offering an encouraging glimpse into the future of Indian table tennis.
