The defending champions secured their third consecutive victory of the tournament to confirm their place in the semi-finals, with Abhishek marking his 150th international appearance with a memorable brace.

Abhishek scored in the 11th and 51st minutes, while captain Harmanpreet Singh (47') and Vishnu Kant Singh (56') also found the net to complete India's convincing victory. Shota Yamada scored Japan's solitary goal through a penalty stroke in the 15th minute.

The result took India to the top of the standings with nine points from three matches and an impressive goal difference of +19. Malaysia also secured their semi-final qualification after defeating Bangladesh 6-1, keeping pace with India on nine points.

India made two changes to their starting line-up, handing opportunities to Vishnu Kant Singh and Angad Bir Singh, while Mandeep Singh and Nilakanta Sharma were rested. Japan started aggressively, employing a high press and putting the Indian defence under pressure in the opening exchanges. They earned a penalty corner in the second minute but failed to convert their opportunity.

India eventually broke the deadlock in the 11th minute through a well-constructed attacking move. Vivek Sagar Prasad found Sukhjeet Singh on the left side of the circle, and the forward produced a sharp turn before cutting the ball back for Abhishek to finish.

Japan responded by increasing their attacking pressure and found an equaliser in the 15th minute. Japan challenge India's defence before the break

The second quarter saw Japan enjoy greater possession, with their compact defensive structure restricting India's attacking opportunities. Goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak played an important role, coming off his line to deny a Japanese attack after Haruki Ochiai found Tsubasa Tanaka on the left.

India attempted to regain control, with Angad Bir Singh producing a backhand effort in the 24th minute, although it failed to trouble the Japanese goalkeeper. A promising combination between Harmanpreet and Abhishek in the 27th minute also failed to produce a goal. India's referral for a possible foul was unsuccessful, and both teams went into the half-time break level at 1-1.

India returned with greater attacking intent after the interval and began retaining possession for longer periods. Sukhjeet had an opportunity in the 32nd minute but sent his effort high and wide. Japan also threatened from a penalty corner in the 36th minute, but captain Raiki Fujishima was unable to breach India's penalty-corner defence.

India continued to create opportunities, with Shilanand Lakra's tomahawk effort being saved by the Japanese goalkeeper. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 47th minute when India earned their first penalty corner of the match. Harmanpreet Singh stepped up and produced a powerful drag-flick to put the hosts ahead 2-1.

It was the Indian captain's fifth goal of the tournament, with all five strikes coming from penalty corners. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in India's favour, and the defending champions began exploiting the spaces in Japan's defence.

Abhishek doubled India's advantage in the 51st minute after another impressive attacking combination. Dilpreet Singh initiated the move by finding Sanjay on the left, and the defender delivered a precise cutback for Abhishek to complete his second goal of the evening.

Vishnu Kant Singh then provided one of the highlights of the match in the 56th minute. Receiving Harmanpreet's diagonal aerial pass outside the circle, Vishnu Kant controlled the ball superbly, drove towards goal and flicked it past the goalkeeper to make it 4-1.

India controlled the closing stages to secure their third successive victory.

Speaking after the match, Abhishek highlighted India's approach in the final quarter and the importance of increasing pressure on Japan.

The forward explained that the coaching staff had encouraged the team to press higher and take control of the contest after half-time. The strategy eventually produced three goals in the final quarter and helped India turn a closely contested match into a comfortable victory.
