India vs Panama: Blue Tigers’ September 25 Friendly Brought Forward Ahead of Brazil, Uruguay Tests

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced a change to the schedule for India’s upcoming international friendly against Panama, with the match now set to be played on September 25, 2026, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

The fixture was originally scheduled for September 26 but has been brought forward by a day. The match remains part of the FIFA Men’s International Match Window and will provide India with an important opportunity to test themselves against a Panama side ranked 44th in the world and fresh from an appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Tickets for the Bengaluru fixture will go live on District next week.

The Panama match is the first of three high-profile international friendlies lined up for India during the September-October window. The Blue Tigers will subsequently face five-time world champions Brazil on October 3 and two-time world champions Uruguay on October 6, with both matches scheduled at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.

The three fixtures represent one of the most challenging stretches of international football for the Indian men's national team in recent years.

Khalid Jamil names 26-player squad

India head coach Khalid Jamil announced a 26-player squad for the international window on August 31, with the camp scheduled to begin in Bengaluru on September 14. The squad includes four goalkeepers in Albino Gomes, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill and Som Kumar.

The defensive group consists of Abhishek Singh Tekcham, Akash Mishra, Anwar Ali, Bijoy Varghese, Hmingthanmawia Ralte, Jay Gupta, Pramveer and Ricky Meetei Haobam. In midfield, Jamil has selected Anirudh Thapa, Ashique Kuruniyan, Farukh Choudhary, Lalengmawia Ralte, Macarton Nickson, Mohammed Sanan, Ricky Shabong and Sahal Abdul Samad.

The forward options are Edmund Lalrindika, Irfan Yadwad, Manvir Singh, Rahim Ali, Ryan Williams and Vikram Partap Singh.

Four players have also been named as reserves. Goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari, defenders Chinglensana Singh Konsham and Roshan Singh Naorem, and midfielder Suresh Singh Wangjam could be called up if required.

The encounter against Panama will be particularly significant as India prepare to face three teams that competed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Panama, ranked 44th, will offer a demanding opening challenge in Bengaluru. For Jamil and his players, the match will be an opportunity to assess how the team handles a higher-ranked opponent while also building momentum before the much-anticipated encounters against Brazil and Uruguay.

Jamil has stressed the importance of using the entire window as a learning opportunity.

“This is a very important window for us, with three challenging matches against teams that have played at the World Cup,” Jamil said. He added that facing Panama in Bengaluru before taking on Brazil and Uruguay in Kolkata would give his players valuable international experience.

The India coach also highlighted the importance of preparation, with the Bengaluru camp beginning almost two weeks before the revised Panama fixture.

Brazil and Uruguay await

Following the Panama match, India will travel to Kolkata on September 28 for the final two matches of the window. The October 3 meeting with Brazil will naturally attract enormous attention. The five-time world champions remain one of the biggest names in international football, while Uruguay will provide another stern test three days later on October 6.

For India, however, the sequence is about more than the profile of the opponents. Three matches against World Cup-level opposition will allow Jamil to assess his squad under different tactical and physical demands. The games could also give several players an opportunity to establish themselves in the national team setup. With a mixture of experienced names and younger options in the 26-man squad, the window provides Jamil with a valuable platform to evaluate his available resources.

The change to the Panama fixture means India's September-October international schedule now begins in Bengaluru on September 25 before shifting to Kolkata.
