Indian Football League Expands Broadcast Reach with Zee and DD Sports Partnership for 2026-27 Season

The Indian Football League (IFL) is set for a significant expansion in its television and digital reach after announcing a multi-platform broadcast partnership with Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) and DD Sports for the 2026-27 season.
The new arrangement will make every match of the competition available across multiple television and digital platforms, marking an important step towards improving the visibility of Indian domestic football. The partnership aims to build on the viewership generated during the previous season, which attracted 17.56 million television viewers, and introduce the league to a wider audience across different regions and demographics.
Under the new agreement, DD Sports will telecast every match of the 2026-27 season, while selected fixtures will also be available on Unite8 Sports. On the digital front, fans will be able to watch all matches live on Z5, WAVES, Prasar Bharati's OTT platform, and the official YouTube channel of Unite8 Sports. The availability of free live streaming on YouTube is expected to provide an additional avenue for football followers to access the competition.
The addition of Zee Entertainment Enterprises to the league's broadcast network represents an important development for the competition. While Doordarshan continues its association with the IFL through DD Sports, the expanded partnership brings together established television broadcasters and digital platforms to create a wider distribution network.
The objective is to make Indian club football more accessible, particularly to audiences who may not traditionally follow domestic leagues through conventional television channels.
With all matches available digitally, supporters will have greater flexibility in following their clubs throughout the season. The combination of television coverage, OTT streaming and YouTube broadcasts also provides multiple entry points for new audiences.
For a competition featuring clubs from different parts of the country, this wider reach could be particularly valuable in building regional fan engagement and strengthening the connection between clubs and their supporters. Nildeep Mondal, CEO of the Indian Football League, described the agreement as an important step in the competition's development, highlighting the need to connect with football audiences across different regions and demographics.
The expanded broadcast arrangement is expected to play a central role in the league's efforts to build on the growing interest in Indian club football.
Zee Sports sees long-term opportunity in Indian football
Zee's involvement adds another major broadcasting network to the domestic football landscape. Bavesh Janavlekar, Chief Business Officer of Zee Sports Network, highlighted the importance of making the competition accessible to football supporters across different platforms. The association with the IFL will see Z5 and Unite8 Sports become important destinations for following the league throughout the season.
The partnership also reflects the growing importance of digital distribution in sports broadcasting. With audiences increasingly consuming live sporting events through mobile devices and online platforms, the availability of every match across multiple streaming destinations could help the IFL expand its audience beyond traditional television viewers.
For the league, the challenge will be to convert this increased accessibility into sustained viewership and stronger engagement with participating clubs. Shillong Lajong FC Managing Director Larsing LD Sawyan also welcomed Zee's association with the competition, pointing towards the importance of a strong broadcasting ecosystem in developing Indian domestic football.
He highlighted the previous season's reported television viewership performance and expressed confidence that the multi-platform approach, combined with the league's club-led model, could contribute to the long-term growth of Indian football.
The broadcasting announcement comes as the 2026-27 IFL season gets underway on October 30, with Real Kashmir FC taking on debutants Nagaland United SC in the opening fixture at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 PM IST.
The competition will run until March 20, 2027, featuring 11 clubs competing in a full home-and-away round-robin format. Each club will play 20 league matches, providing supporters with regular opportunities to follow their teams across the country.
The expanded geographical representation is another important feature of this season's competition. New entrants Nagaland United SC and Samaleswari Sporting Club bring additional regions into the league, strengthening its national footprint. The return to a full-fledged home-and-away format also provides clubs with the opportunity to build stronger connections with their local supporters through home fixtures.
For the IFL, the new broadcast arrangement is about more than simply making matches available on additional platforms. It represents an attempt to strengthen the commercial and audience foundations of domestic football.
A consistent broadcast presence can help clubs attract sponsors, increase brand visibility and build stronger regional fan bases. It can also provide players with greater exposure and help the competition establish a more recognisable identity among Indian sports audiences.
The reported 17.56 million television viewers from the previous season provide a benchmark against which the league will measure its progress. With Zee Entertainment Enterprises joining DD Sports and all matches receiving digital coverage, the IFL will be aiming to improve upon that figure in 2026-27.
The success of the partnership will ultimately depend on the quality of the competition, the consistency of broadcasts and the ability of clubs to bring supporters into the league's growing ecosystem.
With 11 clubs, 20 matches per team and coverage across multiple television and digital platforms, the 2026-27 season represents an important opportunity for Indian domestic football.
The infrastructure for wider reach is now in place. The next challenge for the IFL will be to turn that accessibility into lasting audience growth and establish a stronger position for club football in India's sporting landscape.
