K Selvam & S Singhi Becomes the World Number 1 Indian Women’s Doubles Pair

A new number 1 ranked women’s doubles pair for India arrived with K Selvam and S Singhi. Despite the Indian women’s pairing struggling to prove their worth in international circuit, K Selvam and S Singhi reached their career best rankings of 45.

A new number 1 ranked women’s doubles pair for India arrived with K Selvam and S Singhi. Despite the Indian women’s pairing struggling to prove their worth in international circuit, K Selvam and S Singhi reached their career best rankings of 45.

Selvam and Singhi have done well with good performances but lacked the skills to compete against top quality pairs in international circuit. Known for fast paced, aggressive shots and strong defensive techniques.

During the 2026 Singapore Open, K Selvam and S Singhi produce a spirited performance before losing to P Lopez and L Rodriguez of Spain in three games. Selvam and Singhi won the first game with good confidence keeping the Spanish pairing under pressure with 21-18 scoreline. They struggled in the next two games losing badly by 13-21, 5-21 scoreline to be knocked out during the first itself. 

Selvam and Singhi displayed great courage to win against Iben Bergstein/Yasmine Hamza of Denmark in three games during the Saint Denis Reuninon Cup tournament. They lost the first game by 14-21 before producing spirited performance winning next two games with 21-10, 21-16 scoreline. 

K Selvam and S Singhi are currently at number 40th in the 2026 BWF World Tour rankings. They have been struggling to go beyond the first-round matches during this season so far in big events. 

Selvam and Singhi performances in 2026 

K Selvam and S Singhi made it into round of 32 during India Open event played in New Delhi this year. They played their match against top seeds and second ranked pair of Tan Muralitharan/Pearly Tan of Malaysia. The Indian pairing suffered loss in the first round itself by 18-21, 6-21.  The Indian pairing took part in the Baku International challenge during February 2026. They won their first-round match against Italian pairing of Martina Cosina and Emma Piccinin with straight game win by 21-13, 21-11. After this match, they lost in the round of 32 losing to Paula Lopez and Lucia Rodriguez easily. 

K Selvam and S Singhi were a part of the Uber Cup 2026 team which faced Denmark and China. The Indian pairing defeated P Buhorva/Y Kantemyr of Ukraine in two straight games with 21-11, 21-17 to help Indian women win by 4-1. 

K Selvam partnered with Tanisha Crasto in the second women’s doubles during the last group match against China. Selvam and Tanisha lost to Luo XM and Zhang SX in three games. The Indian pairing won the first game by 21-10 before suffered 12-21, 19-21 in the next two games. 

Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost in the 2nd round of the ongoing US Open. They are currently at number 33rd in the BWF World Tour finals rankings 2026. Both Indian pairings are coming to feature in this tournament after recovering from an injury.  The top Indian women’s doubles pairing Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are currently number 49th in the rankings. During January 2025, Jolly and Gopichand achieved their career best rankings of number 9th in the world. They struggled after that due to injuries and inconsistent performance.

Ashwini Bhatt and Shikha Gautam have been disappointing in 2026 BWF World Tour. They are currently at number 32nd in this prestigious cycle.  Priya Konjbeam and Shruti Mishra also struggled in the BWF World Tour finals tournament in 2026. They are the lowest women’s doubles pairing for India at number 56th. K Selvam and Singhi remained at number 40th in the BWF World tour final rankings. They have been regular part of major events including India Open, Malaysia Open, Singapore Open and Badminton Asia Championship, but never gone beyond the first or second round. 

Simran Singhi won a gold medalist in international challenge events in Ukraine while K Selvam with impressive performances at Uber Cup and BWF World Tour events. 

Indian women’s doubles struggling 

Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand shown success with impressive performance in prestigious events like All England and BWF World Championships. After a string of good performances, they struggled due to injuries in 2026.

K Selvam and S Singhi have not crossed the first-round hurdle most of the time this year. They shown improvement in play but not able to put opponents under pressure with their aggressive style of play. 

They will be looking to perform well in the BWF World Championship 2026 to be played in New Delhi. All the Indian women’s doubles pairing including Jolly and Gayatri, Ashwini Bhatt and Gautam would be looking the home fans to cheer with impressive performance to move ahead into next rounds. 

Other Indian women’s doubles have been struggling for form against top-quality pairs of the world and would be looking to improve in the upcoming tournaments. Selvam and Singhi must do well with their skills to give challenge and keep Indian flag high on the big stage.
