Manvir Singh’s Late Winner Gives Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-0 Victory Over Chennaiyin FC

Manvir Singh scored in the 85th minute as Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in the Indian Super League in Kolkata.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Manvir Singh scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute, converting Liston Colaço’s cross to settle a closely contested encounter and earn the Mariners all three points. Both teams created opportunities throughout the match, but goalkeepers Vishal Kaith and Mohammad Nawaz kept the scoreline level for much of the evening. Chennaiyin came particularly close to taking the lead when Nikola Stojanović struck the crossbar in the second half. However, Mohun Bagan found the breakthrough late in the game and held on to secure victory at home.
Chennaiyin FC began with attacking intent, looking to unsettle the home side early. Stojanović tested his luck from distance but sent his effort over the target, while Brison Fernandes and Irfan Yadwad subsequently threatened the Mohun Bagan goal.
Fernandes came close to breaking the deadlock with an attempt from inside the penalty area that went narrowly wide. Yadwad then had an opportunity to put Chennaiyin ahead, but his header from a Stojanović cross drifted just off target.
Mohun Bagan responded through Samir Zeljković, whose effort was saved by Nawaz. Alberto Rodríguez also missed a chance from close range following a corner as the hosts looked to establish control in the attacking third.
At the other end, Kaith produced important saves to deny Yadwad and Madih Talal. Nawaz remained equally busy, keeping out attempts from Lee Erwin and Dejan Dražić to ensure Chennaiyin stayed in the contest.
Despite the opportunities at both ends, neither side could find a goal before the interval. The goalless first half reflected the teams’ inability to convert promising attacking moves, as well as the effectiveness of their respective goalkeepers.
Tactical Changes Keep the Contest Open
Mohun Bagan made a change at half-time, introducing Sahal Abdul Samad in place of Lallianzuala Chhangte. Anirudh Thapa subsequently replaced Zeljković early in the second half as the Mariners looked for greater attacking impetus.
Chennaiyin continued to threaten, forcing Kaith into further saves against Yadwad and Ramon. Namgyal Bhutia and Fernandes also came close, but neither could find the target. The visitors made their first substitution by bringing on Bryce Miranda for Fernandes. Mohun Bagan responded by introducing Subhasish Bose for Rahul Bheke, while Chennaiyin later sent on Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu and S Prakadeswaran for Ayush Chhetri and Yadwad.
The changes brought fresh energy to the contest, but the deadlock remained intact. Nawaz denied Erwin and Manvir as Mohun Bagan attempted to turn their possession and attacking pressure into a decisive goal. Chennaiyin, meanwhile, remained dangerous on the counter-attack.
Chennaiyin came agonisingly close to taking the lead when Stojanović received an opportunity created by Prakadeswaran. The midfielder unleashed a left-footed effort that struck the crossbar, sparing Mohun Bagan from falling behind late in the match.
The visitors continued to push for a breakthrough, but Kaith made another important save to deny Stojanović. Those interventions proved crucial as the match entered its closing stages, with the possibility of either side snatching victory still very much alive.
Mohun Bagan made two more substitutions, introducing Liston Colaço and Abhishek Suryavanshi for Deepak Tangri and Dražić. The decision to bring on fresh attacking options paid off almost immediately. In the 85th minute, Colaço delivered a cross into the penalty area. Manvir reacted sharply to finish from close range with his chest, finally beating Nawaz and sending the home supporters into celebration.
The late goal rewarded Mohun Bagan’s persistence in a match where clear chances had been difficult to convert. It also came after Chennaiyin had threatened to take the lead, making the timing of Manvir’s finish particularly significant.
With little time remaining, Mohun Bagan focused on protecting their advantage. Chennaiyin had created several opportunities over the course of the match, but the visitors could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Kaith’s saves, Stojanović’s effort against the crossbar and Manvir’s late finish emerged as the defining moments of the encounter. While both goalkeepers had played major roles in keeping the score level, Colaço’s delivery and Manvir’s decisive intervention ultimately separated the teams.
The 1-0 victory gave Mohun Bagan Super Giant all three points in Kolkata after a contest that remained balanced for almost 85 minutes. For Chennaiyin FC, the defeat came despite a number of promising attacking moments and a strong opportunity to take the lead in the second half.
Mohun Bagan’s ability to capitalise on a late chance proved decisive, underlining the importance of persistence and execution in a closely fought ISL fixture.
