India has announced its contingent for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, led by Olympic medallists Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain. Check the full athletics, boxing, weightlifting and lawn bowls squads.

India has unveiled a strong contingent for the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Olympic medallists Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain leading the nation's challenge at the multi-sport event scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.

The Games return to Glasgow for the first time since the memorable 2014 edition but with a significantly different format. Glasgow 2026 will feature just 10 sports, a reduction from the 19 contested at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Competitions will be staged across four venues within an eight-mile corridor, making it the most compact edition of the Games in recent history. Despite the reduced programme, India will field strong medal contenders across athletics, boxing, weightlifting and lawn bowls, while squads for swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, judo, 3x3 basketball and netball are yet to be announced.

India enters the Games after winning 61 medals at Birmingham 2022, though repeating that tally will be considerably more difficult due to the reduced number of medal events.

India's athletics contingent will once again be spearheaded by Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra, who returns to the Commonwealth Games aiming to reclaim the title he won at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. The athletics squad combines experienced campaigners with a new generation of national record holders and rising stars who have emerged over the past Olympic cycle.

Sprint sensation Gurindervir Singh, India's fastest man over 100 metres, and Animesh Kujur, the national record holder in the 200m, headline the men's sprint squad. Middle and long-distance events will see Gulveer Singh compete in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, while India's field event strength remains one of its biggest medal hopes.

Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, triple jumpers Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu, shot put veteran Tajinderpal Singh Toor, and decathlete Tejaswin Shankar are among the athletes expected to challenge for podium finishes. The women's team features Asian Games medallist Parul Chaudhary, who will contest both the 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m, alongside race walkers Priyanka Goswami and Ravina, discus throwers Seema and Nidhi Rani, and shot putter Manpreet Kaur.

Mirabai Chanu Headlines Weightlifting Squad

India's weightlifting campaign will once again revolve around Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu, who will compete in the women's 48kg category. A two-time Commonwealth Games champion, Mirabai remains one of India's most consistent performers on the international stage and will be among the country's strongest gold medal prospects in Glasgow. Joining her are Birmingham 2022 silver medallists Bindyarani Devi and Harjinder Kaur, while Lovepreet Singh, who claimed bronze four years ago, also returns.

The squad also includes promising lifters Gyaneshwari Yadav, Sanjana, Martina Devi, Rishikanta Singh, M Raja, Ajaya Babu and Dilbag Singh, reflecting India's continued depth in weightlifting.

Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain headlines India's boxing squad as she prepares for another Commonwealth Games campaign. Lovlina narrowly missed out on a medal in Birmingham and will now look to add a Commonwealth podium finish to her growing list of international achievements.

One of the biggest talking points in the squad announcement is the absence of former world champion Nikhat Zareen, who failed to qualify after losing to Sakshi Chaudhary during the national selection trials.

Sakshi will represent India in the women's 51kg category, while the women's squad also includes Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Parveen Hooda and Arundhati Choudhary.

The men's boxing team features rising talents Sachin Siwach, Aditya Pratap Singh, Sumit Kundu, Kapil Pokhariya, Narender Berwal and Jadumani Singh, all of whom will be aiming to continue India's strong Commonwealth boxing tradition.

Lawn bowls, one of India's biggest success stories at Birmingham 2022, will once again feature experienced names. Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey, members of the historic Indian women's fours team that won the country's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in lawn bowls, return for Glasgow. On the men's side, Navneet Singh, who helped India secure silver in Birmingham, also retains his place in the squad.

Their experience is expected to play a crucial role as India looks to build on its breakthrough performances from four years ago.

While several major squads have already been finalised, the Indian Olympic Association is yet to announce teams for swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, judo, 3x3 basketball and netball. These announcements are expected in the coming weeks as athletes complete qualification requirements and selection procedures.

With a leaner Games programme, competition for medals is expected to be even more intense. However, India's combination of Olympic medallists, world-level performers and emerging talent provides optimism that the country can once again deliver memorable performances on the Commonwealth stage. As Glasgow prepares to host the Commonwealth Games for the second time, Indian fans will look towards familiar stars such as Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain to lead the medal charge, while the next generation of athletes aims to announce itself on one of sport's biggest international platforms.
