Prime Volleyball League Receives Historic FIVB Recognition, Season 5 to Begin on November 30

The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) has reached a significant milestone in its journey after receiving official recognition from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as India's first division professional volleyball league.
The announcement comes ahead of the league's landmark fifth season, which is set to begin on November 30, 2026, marking another major step in the professionalisation of volleyball in the country. The recognition is a validation of the league's sustained efforts over the past four years to build a structured and competitive volleyball ecosystem in India. It also opens new doors for Indian clubs, with participating teams now eligible to compete in international club competitions organised under the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), and FIVB, subject to qualification criteria.
With the Season 5 Player Auction scheduled for August 17 in Goa, franchises will soon begin assembling their squads for what promises to be one of the league's most competitive editions.
The official recognition from the FIVB represents a defining moment not only for the Prime Volleyball League but also for Indian volleyball as a whole. Since its inception, PVL has aimed to establish a professionally managed league capable of raising playing standards, creating opportunities for Indian athletes, and attracting greater commercial interest in the sport. Over four successful seasons, the league has steadily expanded its reach while providing domestic players with regular exposure to high-level competition alongside international talent.
The FIVB's recognition acknowledges those efforts and officially places the Prime Volleyball League within the global volleyball ecosystem as India's premier professional competition. More importantly, the recognition creates a direct pathway for Indian clubs to compete beyond domestic borders, providing valuable international exposure that has long been missing from the country's volleyball landscape.
One of the biggest outcomes of the FIVB recognition is the opportunity it creates for PVL franchises to participate in international competitions. Subject to qualification criteria and tournament regulations, clubs competing in the Prime Volleyball League will now be eligible to feature in competitions organised by CAVA, AVC, and the FIVB.
For Indian volleyball, this represents a major breakthrough. Competing regularly against leading clubs from across Asia and the world will expose Indian players to higher levels of competition while helping clubs improve tactically, technically, and professionally. Such opportunities also have the potential to increase the visibility of Indian volleyball internationally and attract greater investment into the domestic game.
The pathway aligns Indian volleyball more closely with established professional leagues in other sports, where club success can lead to continental and global competition.
Season 5 Set to Build on League's Growth
The Prime Volleyball League will begin its fifth season on November 30, continuing its mission of showcasing the country's top volleyball talent in a franchise-based format. Before the action begins on the court, all attention will turn to the Season 5 Player Auction in Goa on August 17, where franchises will build their squads from a pool of India's leading players. The auction has become one of the league's key events, offering players an opportunity to earn professional contracts while allowing teams to strategically strengthen their squads ahead of the new campaign.
With top Indian and international players expected to feature once again, Season 5 is likely to maintain the high standard of competition that has become synonymous with the league.
Reacting to the announcement, Tuhin Mishra, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Baseline Ventures and Director of the Prime Volleyball League, described the recognition as a defining moment in the league's journey. He said the FIVB's decision validates the work carried out over the past four years to establish a credible and competitive professional league.
"Our focus remains on strengthening the ecosystem and creating meaningful opportunities for Indian players to succeed at the highest level," Mishra said.
His comments reflect the long-term vision behind the league, which extends beyond organising a successful tournament to creating sustainable career pathways for Indian volleyball players.
Prime Volleyball League CEO Joy Bhattacharjya believes the recognition also reflects the overall progress Indian volleyball has made in recent years. According to Bhattacharjya, the league was created not simply as a sporting event but as a platform capable of driving long-term growth for the sport. He pointed to India's improvement in the FIVB world rankings from World No. 60 to World No. 42 as evidence that the country's volleyball ecosystem is moving in the right direction.
While several factors contribute to improvements in international rankings, the increased exposure, competitive opportunities, and professional environment created by the Prime Volleyball League have undoubtedly played an important role in the development of Indian players.
The Prime Volleyball League has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing professional sports leagues since its launch, attracting increasing fan interest, corporate support, and broadcast visibility with each passing season. The league has also helped bring volleyball back into the national sporting conversation by providing a platform where Indian players can compete regularly in professionally organised competitions.
The FIVB's recognition further strengthens the league's credibility and enhances its ability to attract better players, stronger commercial partnerships, and greater international collaboration.
As Indian volleyball continues its upward trajectory, Season 5 promises to be more than just another edition of the league. It represents the beginning of a new phase in the sport's development, where domestic success could eventually lead to continental and global opportunities for Indian clubs.
With the player auction approaching and the season set to begin at the end of November, the Prime Volleyball League enters its fifth year carrying greater expectations than ever before. Backed by official recognition from the sport's global governing body, the league is now well-positioned to play an even bigger role in shaping the future of volleyball in India while giving its players a genuine pathway to compete on the international stage.
