Roundglass Hockey Academy (RGHA) is set to take another significant step in its player development journey as its Under-18 boys’ team heads to Sydney, Australia, for the International Youth Hockey Cup 2026, scheduled to be held from June 23 to June 27.

The tournament will see the academy’s young talents compete against leading youth teams from Australia and Singapore, offering them a valuable platform to gain international exposure and test themselves against quality opposition.

The participation reflects Roundglass Hockey Academy’s long-term vision of preparing India’s next generation of hockey stars through regular overseas competition, high-performance training and exposure to diverse playing styles.

For young athletes aspiring to represent India at the highest level, international tournaments provide experiences that domestic competitions alone cannot replicate. Playing against unfamiliar opponents in different conditions challenges players tactically and mentally while helping them adapt to varied styles of hockey.

The International Youth Hockey Cup presents exactly such an opportunity for the Roundglass U-18 squad. Over five league-stage matches, the team will face opponents from different hockey systems, allowing players to sharpen their decision-making, improve game management and build confidence under pressure.

The academy has consistently emphasised holistic player development, and tours such as these form an integral part of that philosophy.

Roundglass Hockey Academy will begin its campaign against NSW Lions on June 23, before facing a demanding double-header the following day.

On June 24, RGHA will first take on Team Majulah Singapore before returning later in the day to play NSW Singhs. The packed schedule will test not only the technical abilities of the players but also their physical conditioning and recovery management.

The team will then meet Bobby Academy on June 25 before concluding its league fixtures against Shepparton on June 26.

The top two teams from the league standings will qualify for the Boys Grand Final on June 27, giving RGHA an opportunity to compete for the tournament title if they can produce consistent performances throughout the week.

The Sydney tour comes shortly after another successful overseas campaign for Roundglass Hockey Academy. Earlier this year, the academy’s senior side emerged champions at the Sikh Union Club Nairobi Centenary Celebrations Hockey Tournament 2026 in Kenya. In the final, RGHA produced an impressive display to defeat hosts Nairobi Sikh Union 4-1 and lift the title.

That triumph showcased the effectiveness of the academy’s high-performance model and reinforced its reputation as one of India’s leading hockey development programmes.

The Under-18 squad will now look to carry that winning momentum into Australia while gaining experience that could prove invaluable in their future careers.

Unlike many youth tournaments where immediate results become the primary objective, the International Youth Hockey Cup offers a broader developmental opportunity. Facing Australian and Singaporean teams exposes Indian players to different tactical systems, defensive structures and transition play. Such experiences often accelerate learning and prepare athletes for the demands of elite international hockey.

The tournament will also allow coaches to assess how players respond under pressure, adapt to unfamiliar situations and execute game plans against quality opposition.

These lessons can play a significant role in shaping future national-level players.

India has enjoyed tremendous success in recent years at the senior international level, and sustaining that momentum depends heavily on producing talented youngsters capable of progressing through the development pathway. Academies like Roundglass have become increasingly important in this process by combining world-class coaching with sports science, nutrition, fitness programmes and international competition.

Regular overseas tours provide players with experiences that broaden their understanding of the game while helping bridge the gap between domestic and international hockey.

For many members of the U-18 squad, this tournament could serve as an important milestone in their journey towards representing India in junior and senior competitions.

While winning the tournament would undoubtedly be a welcome achievement, the larger objective remains player growth and exposure. Every match against international opposition offers opportunities to improve tactical awareness, mental resilience and technical execution.

The packed schedule in Sydney will demand consistency, adaptability and teamwork—qualities essential for success at higher levels of the sport.

As Roundglass Hockey Academy’s young stars prepare to take the field in Australia, they do so carrying not only the ambitions of their academy but also the promise of Indian hockey’s future. With quality preparation, recent international success and a commitment to excellence, the U-18 squad will be aiming to make a strong impression and continue the academy’s reputation for producing high-performing talent on the global stage.
