Roundglass Partners with Football Players Association of Punjab to Boost Player Welfare and Development

In a significant move towards strengthening player welfare in Indian football, Roundglass has announced a strategic collaboration with the Football Players Association of Punjab (FPAP). 

The partnership aims to create a more player-centric football ecosystem by introducing structured initiatives focused on education, wellbeing, career development and holistic support for footballers across Punjab. The announcement was made in Chandigarh in the presence of several prominent figures from Indian football, including former India international and FPAP President Anwar Ali, FPAP Vice President Harpreet Singh, current India goalkeeper Amrinder Singh, Indian women's youth international Gurnaz Kaur, Indian Women's League player Harmilian Kaur, Punjab FC General Manager Nitin Pant, former Punjab FC player Bikramjit Singh, and representatives from both Roundglass and FPAP.

The collaboration represents another important step in Roundglass' long-term commitment to developing football in India beyond the competitive side of the game.

Roundglass, owners of Indian Super League club Punjab FC, has consistently focused on building a sustainable football ecosystem through grassroots development, youth programmes and professional football. With this latest initiative, the organisation is extending that philosophy by addressing areas that often receive less attention but are equally important in an athlete's career.

Rather than concentrating solely on on-field performance, the partnership seeks to ensure that footballers receive support throughout every stage of their journey—from aspiring youngsters to experienced professionals and even retired players.

The collaboration has been designed as a non-commercial initiative, with a clear emphasis on education, welfare and long-term player development.

Under the proposed framework, Roundglass and FPAP will jointly conduct programmes covering a wide range of important topics that directly impact the lives of footballers. The initiatives will include workshops and awareness sessions on player welfare, mental health, injury prevention and rehabilitation, financial literacy, career transition planning, health and lifestyle education, integrity in sport, anti-doping awareness, and grassroots community engagement.

Retired players will also play an active role through mentorship programmes, allowing younger footballers to benefit from their experience and guidance. In addition, the partnership will encourage policy discussions focused on strengthening the overall football ecosystem within Punjab. The objective is to create an environment where players are supported not only during their playing careers but also while preparing for life after football.

As part of the collaboration, FPAP members will receive complimentary access to the Roundglass Living app, providing footballers with digital resources designed to support their physical and mental wellbeing. Importantly, both organisations have emphasised that the partnership is entirely educational and welfare-orientated. A Joint Working Group, consisting of representatives from Roundglass and FPAP, will oversee the implementation of various programmes through regular coordination. Activities will include workshops, seminars, awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives. The collaboration has also been carefully structured to avoid involvement in player contracts, employment negotiations or governance matters.

Instead, the focus remains firmly on empowering footballers through knowledge, education and support services.

Speaking about the partnership, Nitin Pant, General Manager of Punjab FC, highlighted that true player development extends well beyond technical coaching and competitive football. He noted that education, wellbeing and career planning are essential components of building a sustainable football ecosystem.

According to Pant, the collaboration reflects Roundglass' long-term commitment to placing players at the centre of its football philosophy while creating opportunities that strengthen both individuals and the wider football community in Punjab. The initiative also aligns with Roundglass' broader vision of building trust, credibility and meaningful engagement across every level of the sport.

Former India international Anwar Ali, who serves as president of the Football Players Association of Punjab, described the collaboration as an important milestone for footballers across the state. He explained that FPAP was established with the belief that every footballer deserves a strong support system both during and after their playing career. According to Anwar, working alongside Roundglass will allow the association to develop meaningful initiatives focused on mental wellbeing, education, player welfare and career development, helping footballers make informed decisions throughout their professional journeys.
