Team India Receives Grand Send-Off Ahead of Commonwealth Games 2026, Official Kit Unveiled

With just over two weeks remaining before the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officially flagged off Team India's campaign with a grand send-off ceremony in New Delhi on Tuesday. 

The occasion also witnessed the unveiling of the official ceremonial and competition kit that India's athletes will wear during the Games in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2. The event brought together athletes, coaches, support staff, government officials, corporate partners and former champions as India prepared to send a 124-member contingent to Scotland. Featuring both able-bodied and para-athletes, Team India will compete across 10 disciplines and will be aiming to build on its successful performances at previous Commonwealth Games.

The ceremony celebrated not only the athletes' achievements in qualifying for the Games but also India's growing sporting ecosystem that continues to support athletes across multiple disciplines.

The send-off ceremony was attended by several prominent personalities from the sporting and political landscape.

Among those present were Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Indian Olympic Association President Dr. P.T. Usha, British High Commissioner to India Her Excellency Lindy Cameron, Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh, Secretary of the Department of Sports Hari Ranjan Rao, Chef de Mission Rohit Rajpal and Deputy Chef de Mission Ravi Bengani. Athletes, coaches, officials and representatives of Team India's corporate partners also attended the programme, making it one of the largest ceremonial gatherings before India's departure for Glasgow.

Addressing the contingent, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the government's continued investment in building a world-class sporting ecosystem and encouraged the athletes to compete fearlessly while upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting Indian athletes as they strive to bring glory to the country.

Indian Olympic Association President Dr. P.T. Usha congratulated every athlete for earning the opportunity to represent the country through years of dedication and sacrifice. She wished the contingent success and reminded them that they carry the hopes and aspirations of millions of Indians when they step onto the international stage. British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron also extended her best wishes to the contingent, describing the Commonwealth Games as a celebration of athletic excellence and the shared values of Commonwealth nations. She also acknowledged India's preparations to host the centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030.

One of the biggest highlights of the ceremony was the unveiling of Team India's official Commonwealth Games 2026 kit. Athletes participated in a special ramp walk showcasing both the ceremonial attire and the competition jersey that will be worn throughout the Games. Designed by acclaimed designer Aaquib Wani and developed by JSW Sports, the new kit carries the theme "Invisible Trajectories."

The design draws inspiration from the unseen movements created by athletes during competition. Using intricate spirograph-inspired patterns, the jersey symbolises rhythm, precision, movement and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Every line incorporated into the design represents the countless hours of training, dedication and perseverance that define elite athletes.

The result is a modern performance kit that combines functionality with a strong visual identity representing Team India's sporting ambitions.

JSW Sports, which developed the official kit, continues to play a significant role in India's high-performance sporting ecosystem. Parth Jindal highlighted the importance of supporting athletes beyond competition and described the campaign slogan, "Rukna Nahin Hai", as a reflection of the company's long-term commitment to Indian sport.

He encouraged Indian fans to wear the official jersey as a symbol of support for the athletes competing in Glasgow, emphasising the importance of national unity behind Team India during the Games. The partnership between the Indian Olympic Association and JSW Sports reflects the growing collaboration between sports administrators and the private sector in strengthening athlete preparation and performance.

The partnerships provide crucial financial and logistical support, ensuring athletes receive access to world-class training, equipment, recovery facilities and competition exposure. India will send a 124-member contingent to Glasgow comprising both able-bodied and para-athletes. The athletes will compete across ten disciplines, including athletics, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, lawn bowls, swimming and weightlifting. The contingent also includes competitors in para-athletics, para-swimming, para-powerlifting, para-track cycling and para-wheelchair basketball, reflecting India's continued commitment to integrated sport.

Chef de Mission Rohit Rajpal will lead the delegation, while Ravi Bengani will serve as Deputy Chef de Mission, overseeing athlete welfare and operational support throughout the Games. Their role will be critical in ensuring smooth coordination as athletes compete across multiple venues in Glasgow.

India heads to Glasgow after an impressive performance at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where the country finished fourth in the overall medal standings with 61 medals. Although the 2026 Games feature a significantly reduced sports programme—with disciplines such as wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey and cricket excluded—India still enters the competition with genuine medal prospects in boxing, weightlifting, athletics, judo, lawn bowls and para sports.

The official send-off marks the beginning of another important chapter in India's sporting journey. With experienced campaigners, rising young talent and strong institutional support, Team India will aim to once again leave a lasting impression on the Commonwealth stage.
