US Open Badminton 2026 Day 2: Impressive Outing For Indian Shuttlers

It was an impressive outing for the Indian shuttlers as most of them registered wins in their first-round matches at the Super 300 US Open played at California on 24th June 2026. 

Tanvi Sharma registered an impressive straight game win over Yvonne Li of Germany. Both players started the first game on even keel taking alternate points till 4-4. Tanvi stepped her style with aggression keeping Li under immense pressure taking 4 points in a row to lead at 8-4. The Indian put on a dominating display with a 11-7 lead at the break. 

After the interval, Tanvi looked to take the first game away easily, but Yvonne showed great courage and fighting spirit making Indian fight for it. Li had a match point at 20-19 before Tanvi saved it. It was a close fought affair as the Indian held onto her nerves to win by 23-21. 

The second game saw Tanvi Sharma producing a dominating display keeping Li under immense pressure. Tanvi looked sharp making life tough for the opponent. Despite a mini-comeback by Li, the Indian took a 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, Tanvi continued her style of play and maintained momentum. Despite another mini-comeback by Li, Tanvi showed her class to win with 21-16 scoreline and move into round 2. She will face Tung C-t of Chinese Taipei. 

The 6th seeded Devika Sihag eased past her Austrian opponent Indes Castilo in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by Devika right from the word go putting pressure on Castilo. Sihag looked in complete control right from the word go during the first game putting Castilo under pressure. At the mid-game break, the Indian had a commanding 11-5 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic for Devika as she put on a dominating display to win first game by 21-14. 

The second game began on a much better with both players fighting for each point. Devika then upped her game putting dominating display before Castilo showed spirit to level scores at 9-9. The Indian showed great skills keeping Austrian under pressure leading 11-9 at the break. 

After the interval, Devika displayed attacking skills keeping Castilo under immense pressure winning second game comfortably at 21-14 to move into round 2. She will now play Tonr Saehang of Thailand. 

Santosh Ramraj cruised past qualifier 4 T Svablkova of Czech Republic in two straight games. It was a dominating performance by Ramraj not allowing any chances for her opponent winning with 21-15, 21-8 scoreline. She will face Chen S-y of Chinese Taipei. 

Raunak Chahuhan defeated Indian counter-part S Subramanian in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought affair before Raunak held his nerves to win by 23-21 scoreline. Raunak looked in sublime touch during the 2nd game keeping Subramanian under pressure with a dominating 21-16 scoreline to move into round. He will face top seeded Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. 

The 5th seeded Kidambi Srikanth registered an impressive straight game win over S Dayanand. Srikanth looked in sublime touch keeping Dayanand under pressure right from the word go winning with 21-14 scoreline. Srikanth maintained his domination in the 2nd game before Dayanand showed mini-fightback. Srikanth had a commanding 11-6 lead at the break. 

After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Srikanth continued his domination keeping Dayanand under pressure winning by 21-12 to move into round 2. He will face Lee Ji Zia of Malaysia. 

The 7th seeded mixed doubles D Rawat and K Maneesha displayed a dominating display to win against WI Adam and S Kani of Indonesia in two straight games. It was an impressive by Indian pairing with 21-15, 21-16 scoreline. They will now face K Kolding and M Werge of Denmark.

There were 4 Indian shuttlers who lost in the first round itself. Shreyanshi Valishetty suffered straight game loss to R Chan of Canada. It was a closely fought affair in the first game as both players fought for each point before Valishetty lost by 19-21. Valishetty looked out of sorts in the 2nd game as Chan played aggressive badminton as Indian lost by 11-21. 

Tanya Hemanth lost to 4th seeded R Gunji of Japan in straight games. It was a disappointing outing for Tanya who struggled against the Japanese losing by 11-21, 13-21. 

Akarshi Kashyap poor form continued with a straight game loss to Tung C-t of Chinese Taipei. Kashyap struggled in the first game losing by 9-21 scoreline. The second game was a much better effort by Indian, but lost with 17-21. 

Anmol Kharb went down in straight games to Nalbantova of Hungary. It was a disappointing performance by Kharb losing by 14-21, 14-21. 

On the opening day, Tressa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand defeated P Lopez and L Rodriguez of Spain in three games by 21-12, 14-21, 21-13.
