The men’s singles section saw the runner-up of the US Open, Kidambi Srikanth, retire hurt against Lee Ji Zia of Malaysia. It was a closely fought affair as both players fought for each point before Srikanth decided to withdraw trailing 10-11 due to an injury.
S. Dayanand lost to 3rd seeded Y. Okimoto of Japan in two straight games. It was a disappointing outing for Dayanand as he looked out of sorts against Okimoto, losing by 7-21 and 11-21. S. Subramanian went down fighting to Y T-b of South Korea in three thrilling games. The first game was as closely fought as both players showed class, taking alternate points before Subramanian won the first game by 21-19. The next two games saw Yoo T.B. of South Korea put on a dominating display, keeping the Indian under pressure with attacking moves, winning by 21-15, 21-15. Subramanian struggled with his shots as his opponent looked impressive and made life tough for the Indian.

The women’s singles section saw Akarshi Kashyap winning her first-round match against pre-qualifier A Tatarnova. It was an impressive performance by Kashyap, putting on a dominating display and keeping the opponent under pressure with a 21-14, 21-12 scoreline.
Kashyap went down fighting to the 4th seeded B. Zhang of the USA. The first game went right down to the wire as both players fought for each point before Kashyap won with a closely fought 22-20. Zhang showed her class with a closely fought affair, winning by 21-17, 21-17.
Kashyap went down fighting in the next two games, keeping Zhang under pressure but failing to convert it into winning points.
Tanya Hemanth won her first-round match against Disha Gupta of the USA in two straight games. It was an impressive performance by Tanya, keeping her opponent under pressure and winning by 21-16 and 21-18. Despite some fight by Gupta, Tanya showed nerves to win it comfortably.
Tanya suffered loss to 3rd R Gunji of Japan in two straight games. Tanya looked out of sorts in the 2nd match against the Japanese, losing by 11-21 and 11-21. It was a disappointing performance by the Indian against a strong opponent. Anmol Kharb went down fighting to top-seed Michelle Li of Canada in three games. Kharb looked out of sorts in the first game as Li dominated, winning by 21-6. The second game was a closely fought affair as both players took alternate points. Kharb held onto her nerves to win the second game by 26-24. Kharb struggled in the third game as she looked out of sorts, losing with a 13-21 scoreline.
Shreyanshi Valishetty suffered a first-round loss to Huang C-P of Chinese Taipei. The first game was a one-sided affair as Valishetty struggled, losing by 9-21. It was a much-better effort by Valishetty in the 2nd game as she put on a decent effort but committed unforced errors, losing by 18-21.
Santosh Ramraj suffered a first-round exit with a three-game loss to R. Chan of Canada. Ramraj looked sharp in the first game, putting pressure on Chan with attacking badminton and winning with a 21-15 scoreline.
Ramraj struggled in the next two games as Chan put on a dominating display. The Indian looked shaky, committing unforced errors and losing the 2nd game by 14-21. It was a closely fought affair in the initial stages of the 3rd game before Ramraj lost out, stemming from losing by 15-21.
Devika Sihag could maintain the momentum from the US Open tournament. She lost in the first round, losing to Tung C-T of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. Sihag struggled with fitness as she could move forward, losing the first game by 14-21. The second game was a disappointing effort by Sihag, as her opponent looked sharp. Sihag lost with a 15-21 scoreline as she struggled in the entire match with her ability to move ahead against Tung.
Devika was 5th seeded in the Canada Open 2026. It was a disappointing outing for Indian shuttlers as Tanya Hemanth and Akarshi Kashyap made it into the 2nd round while others crashed out in the 1st round itself.
