The Hyderabad Heroes delivered one of the most commanding performances of the HSBC Rugby Premier League (RPL) powered by Avid Season 2, overwhelming the Bengaluru Bravehearts 45-7 at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

Despite Bengaluru enjoying early possession, Hyderabad’s clinical finishing, defensive discipline and explosive attacking play proved too much for their opponents. Led by standout performances from Taitaifono Tavita and Maurice Longbottom, the Heroes ran in multiple tries to record a comprehensive victory that reinforces their credentials as one of the strongest teams in the competition.

The result also served as an ideal response for Hyderabad after narrowly losing to Mumbai Dreamers in their previous outing, demonstrating the team’s resilience and attacking firepower.

The opening exchanges suggested a much tighter contest than the final scoreline would indicate. Bengaluru Bravehearts controlled possession during the early stages and spent significant periods inside Hyderabad territory.

However, despite enjoying territorial advantage, the Bravehearts struggled to break through a well-organised Hyderabad defence that consistently shut down attacking opportunities.

The inability to convert possession into points would ultimately prove costly as Hyderabad gradually found its rhythm and began punishing every defensive lapse.

The breakthrough finally arrived late in the opening quarter when Maurice Longbottom crossed over to give Hyderabad the lead. The try shifted momentum decisively in favour of the Heroes, who immediately increased the tempo of the contest. Longbottom’s experience and composure provided the spark Hyderabad needed, allowing the team to play with greater confidence and freedom.

From that point onward, Bengaluru found it increasingly difficult to contain Hyderabad’s pace and attacking variety.

If Longbottom initiated Hyderabad’s dominance, Taitaifono Tavita elevated it to another level. The dynamic playmaker enjoyed a sensational evening, scoring one try while also creating opportunities for his teammates. His vision and distribution were instrumental in Hyderabad extending their advantage during the second period.

One of the standout moments came when Tavita set up Ravuama Seruvakula, showcasing excellent awareness and precision to unlock the Bengaluru defence.

Later in the match, Tavita added another try to cap off an outstanding individual performance that highlighted his importance to Hyderabad’s campaign.

Hyderabad’s relentless attacking pressure continued throughout the contest. Sumit Kumar Roy added his name to the scoresheet with a well-taken try, while experienced campaigner Diego Ardao also crossed over as the Heroes steadily increased the gap.

Their ability to combine quick ball movement with incisive running repeatedly exposed Bengaluru’s defensive structure, forcing the Bravehearts onto the back foot.

Equally impressive was Hyderabad’s defensive effort. Even when Bengaluru managed to create promising attacking phases, the Heroes remained disciplined and denied their opponents meaningful scoring opportunities.

The Bravehearts eventually found a breakthrough in the closing stages when Akuila Rokolisoa scored their only try of the evening. While the score provided a brief moment of encouragement, it did little to alter the overall narrative of the contest, with Hyderabad maintaining complete control. The Heroes responded almost immediately by continuing to attack until the final whistle rather than protecting their substantial lead.

As the match entered its final moments, Maurice Longbottom produced one final highlight by successfully executing a drop goal. The score put the finishing touches on a dominant 45-7 victory, reflecting Hyderabad’s superiority across virtually every aspect of the game. Longbottom’s contribution extended beyond the scoreboard, as his leadership and decision-making consistently helped the Heroes dictate the pace of play.

The emphatic margin of victory sends a strong message to the rest of the league.

Hyderabad combined physicality with tactical intelligence, balancing patient build-up play with explosive counter-attacks whenever opportunities emerged. Their ability to convert chances efficiently contrasted sharply with Bengaluru’s struggles to capitalise on early possession.

The performance also showcased the depth of Hyderabad’s squad, with multiple players contributing significantly in both attack and defence.

The seventh day of the HSBC Rugby Premier League was set to continue with several crucial fixtures across both the men’s and women’s competitions. In the men’s division, Chennai Bulls were scheduled to take on Delhi Redz, while Kolkata Banga Tigers prepared to face Mumbai Dreamers in another important encounter.

Attention in the women’s competition was focused on the clash between Delhi Redz and Kolkata Banga Tigers, a match expected to determine the second finalist and complete the championship lineup.

As Season 2 progresses, Hyderabad Heroes appear to be hitting form at the perfect time. Their convincing victory over Bengaluru Bravehearts demonstrated not only attacking brilliance but also the defensive organisation and squad depth required to challenge for the title.

For Bengaluru, the defeat will serve as an opportunity to regroup and address the missed opportunities that prevented them from turning early possession into scoreboard pressure.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad can take immense confidence from one of the most complete performances of the tournament. With stars like Taitaifono Tavita, Maurice Longbottom and Diego Ardao leading from the front, the Heroes have firmly re-established themselves as serious contenders for the HSBC Rugby Premier League crown.
