India Women Reach Asia Rugby 7s Series Quarter-finals After Two Impressive Wins in Suzhou
India’s senior women’s rugby sevens team has booked its place in the quarter-finals of the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2026 after an impressive opening day in Suzhou, China. The Indian team secured two victories from three Pool D matches, finishing second in the group and progressing to the knockout stage.
India began its campaign with a hard-fought 14-10 victory over the United Arab Emirates, followed by a convincing 24-5 win against Iran. The only setback came against defending champions Japan, who defeated India 52-0 in the final pool match.
Despite that heavy defeat, the two earlier victories were enough to secure India's place in the quarter-finals, keeping the team's hopes of a strong finish in the opening round alive.
The result is another encouraging step for a women's programme that has made significant progress in Asian rugby over the past year.
