Yuvraj Sandhu Finishes T-63 at Soudal Open After Difficult Final Round

Yuvraj Sandhu endured a disappointing final day at the Soudal Open as the Indian golfer slipped down the leaderboard to finish tied 63rd in his debut season on the DP World Tour.
The 29-year-old carded a two-over 73 in the final round to close the tournament at five-under par overall, with rounds of 70, 68, 68 and 73. For much of the week, Sandhu looked set for a significantly stronger finish. Back-to-back rounds of 68 during the second and third days had moved him into contention for a top-30 result. However, a difficult Sunday saw him drop more than 30 places on the leaderboard.
Sandhu entered the final round at tied 32nd and appeared well placed to produce one of his best finishes of the season. His opening three rounds had reflected growing confidence and stability in his first year competing regularly at the DP World Tour level. After an opening-round 70, Sandhu improved steadily with consecutive four-under 68s, displaying solid iron play and controlled scoring across the middle stages of the tournament. The consistency shown during those rounds was particularly encouraging given the quality of the field and the challenge of adapting to regular competition on Europe’s top circuit.
However, the momentum faded on the final day.
Sandhu’s struggles began early during the final round. He dropped consecutive bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes, immediately placing himself on the defensive. Unlike the earlier rounds where he managed momentum effectively, Sunday proved far more difficult as scoring opportunities became limited.
The Indian golfer added another bogey on the 13th hole before finally registering his only birdie of the day on the 15th. Despite the late birdie, Sandhu could not recover the lost ground and eventually signed for a two-over 73, his only over-par round of the week.
The result pushed him down to tied 63rd by the end of the tournament.
Although the final-day drop will feel frustrating, the overall week still offered encouraging signs for Sandhu in the context of his debut DP World Tour campaign. Competing consistently across four rounds remains one of the biggest challenges for players transitioning into elite European golf. Sandhu’s second and third rounds demonstrated that he possesses the scoring ability required to compete effectively at this level.
More importantly, he successfully made the cut and remained competitive through the majority of the tournament. For players adjusting to the demands of the DP World Tour schedule, those incremental improvements are often critical during the first full season.
Sandhu’s move into the DP World Tour represents one of the most important phases of his professional career. After establishing himself on the domestic circuit and earning progression opportunities through strong performances, the challenge now lies in adapting to higher-level competition, stronger fields and more demanding course setups week after week.
The difference between domestic tours and the DP World Tour often comes down to consistency under pressure across all four rounds.
This week reflected that reality clearly.
While Sandhu played high-quality golf during the middle stages of the tournament, the final round exposed how small momentum shifts can significantly impact leaderboard position at the elite level.
The other Indian competing at the Soudal Open, Shubhankar Sharma, continued to struggle with form as he missed the cut for the third consecutive tournament. Sharma last made the cut at the Turkish Airlines Open in March and has since endured a difficult stretch on tour. The experienced Indian golfer has previously enjoyed success on the DP World Tour and remains one of India’s most accomplished international golfers. However, recent performances have highlighted the inconsistency that can affect even established players competing regularly at the top level.

Despite the mixed results, Indian golf continues to maintain a growing presence on international tours. The emergence of players like Yuvraj Sandhu alongside younger golfers progressing through Challenge Tour and Asian Tour pathways reflects the expanding depth within Indian professional golf.
For Sandhu specifically, tournaments like the Soudal Open remain valuable learning experiences.
While the final round prevented a stronger finish this time, spending multiple days in competitive leaderboard positions against elite international fields is an important part of long-term development at the DP World Tour level.
And if he can build greater consistency across final rounds, stronger finishes are likely to follow as his debut season progresses.
