Asian Games 2026: India’s Packed September 20 Schedule Across Swimming, Hockey, Badminton and More

The Asian Games 2026 will move into a crucial phase for India on September 20, with the country’s athletes set to compete across a wide range of disciplines.
From the swimming pool and hockey field to the badminton court, rowing course and combat arenas, it promises to be one of the busiest days of India’s campaign.
The action, however, begins even before September 20. India’s build-up to the day includes important competitions in teqball, soft tennis and women’s cricket, with the latter potentially bringing a major knockout fixture against hosts Japan.
India’s schedule begins on September 17 with the men’s doubles qualification in teqball, scheduled for 10:00 AM. Teqball will remain a prominent part of India’s early Asian Games programme, with athletes competing across singles and doubles events over the following days. The men’s doubles qualification will be followed by further opportunities for Indian players to progress through the competition.
September 18: Cricket Takes Centre Stage
September 18 brings a particularly important contest for Indian fans. India’s women’s cricket team is scheduled to face Japan in the quarter-finals at 10:30 AM. With the tournament entering its knockout stage, the match could provide India with a direct route towards the medal rounds. The day also features considerable activity in teqball and soft tennis.
Teqball’s women’s singles qualification begins at 6:30 AM, followed by mixed doubles qualification at 9:00 AM. In soft tennis, India’s men will compete in the team qualification from 5:30 AM. For India’s women cricketers, however, the Japan quarter-final will be the headline event of the day.
Teqball continues on September 19, with the women’s singles semi-finals at 6:30 AM. The mixed doubles semi-final follows at 7:30 AM, while the men’s doubles semi-final is scheduled for 8:30 AM.
With the competition moving deeper into its knockout phase, Indian teqball players will have the opportunity to put themselves within touching distance of the medals.
September 20: A Day Packed With Indian Action
September 20 is where the schedule becomes particularly intense. The day begins with events across multiple sports, including tennis, sepak takraw, wushu, rowing, badminton, teqball and shooting.
In tennis, India will begin its individual preliminary campaign, although the exact timing is yet to be announced. The men’s team regu competition in sepak takraw begins at 5:30 AM, while wushu starts at the same time with the men’s changquan final. Later in the afternoon, the wushu programme moves to the Sanda round of 16 at 2:30 PM.
Rowing will also have a busy morning. The men’s single sculls heats are scheduled for 5:30 AM, followed by the men’s double sculls at 5:50 AM and men’s pair heats at 6:40 AM. The women’s four heats are scheduled for 7:10 AM. Badminton begins at 6:00 AM with the women’s team. Round of 16, another important event for an Indian contingent with strong ambitions in the sport.
Swimming provides another major Indian focus on September 20. The men’s 100m freestyle heats are scheduled for 7:14 AM, followed by the men’s 100m backstroke heats at 7:35 AM. The finals arrive later in the afternoon, with the men’s 100m freestyle final scheduled for 2:27 PM, followed by the men’s 100m backstroke final at 2:49 PM.
For Indian swimming, the opening day of competition could therefore immediately bring medal opportunities.
The hockey programme will also get underway for India. The Indian women’s hockey team will face Uzbekistan at 7:30 AM in the group stage, while the men’s team will take on Indonesia at 11:30 AM. Both teams will be looking to establish themselves strongly at the beginning of their respective campaigns. With hockey traditionally one of India’s major medal sports at the Asian Games, the opening fixtures will attract significant attention.
MMA, Soft Tennis and Women’s Cricket Continue
Mixed martial arts will also feature prominently, with the preliminary round scheduled for 8:00 AM and the quarter-finals at 2:00 PM. Soft tennis continues with the men’s team semi-finals at 8:00 AM, giving India another potential route towards the medal rounds. Women’s cricket is scheduled to have its semi-final at 10:30 AM, meaning India could potentially be involved in the medal phase depending on the outcome of its quarter-final against Japan.

Teqball’s programme reaches its climax on September 20 as well, with all finals scheduled for 6:30 AM. Shooting will also see Indian participation, with the women’s 10m air rifle event listed for TBA.
What makes September 20 particularly significant is the sheer breadth of India’s participation. The country could be represented across traditional medal sports such as badminton, shooting, swimming, rowing and hockey, while newer disciplines such as teqball and MMA provide additional opportunities. For fans, it will be a day that requires careful planning, with Indian athletes competing from early morning into the afternoon across multiple venues and sports.
And while September 17-19 will set the tone, September 20 could offer the first real indication of how India’s medal campaign is taking shape. From the rowing course at dawn to swimming finals in the afternoon, from hockey group matches to cricket’s potential semi-final, September 20 has all the ingredients to become one of the most action-packed days of India’s Asian Games 2026 campaign.
