Suresh Gets India Underway Against Kwon

The opening singles rubber will see Dhakshineswar Suresh take on South Korea's experienced Kwon Soon-woo. Suresh, who has emerged as an important player for India in the Davis Cup, faces a significantly more experienced opponent. Kwon has reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of 52 and currently stands at No. 150.

The matchup brings together contrasting styles, with Suresh expected to rely on his powerful serve and aggressive forehand, while Kwon's movement and consistency from the baseline will be key elements of his game. The home crowd at the Olympic Park Tennis Center is expected to provide additional support for Kwon, making the opening rubber particularly important for India.

The second singles match on Friday will feature India's leading singles player, Sumit Nagal, against Chung Hyeon. Chung, currently ranked outside the top 500, has previously reached a career-high ranking of No. 19 and enjoyed a memorable run at the 2018 Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals. His run in Melbourne included a victory over Novak Djokovic, underlining the level of experience he brings despite his current ranking.

Nagal, meanwhile, has been one of the mainstays of India's Davis Cup team. His experience in team competition could prove important as India attempts to secure a crucial victory away from home. The playing surface could become an important factor during the tie. South Korea opted to host the contest on hard courts and resurfaced the Olympic Park court ahead of the match. India's captain Rohit Rajpal indicated that the hosts had deliberately prepared conditions featuring a slower court and relatively low bounce, which could challenge India's singles players.
