India’s men’s hockey team delivered the final medal of the country’s Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, securing a second consecutive gold medal in the event and taking India’s overall tally to 85.

The hockey triumph completed India’s campaign with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, enough to secure fourth place in the final medal standings.

India’s overall tally fell short of its 106-medal haul from Hangzhou, which had included 28 gold medals. However, the country retained fourth position in Aichi-Nagoya, finishing ahead of Uzbekistan despite both nations winning 21 gold medals. India’s advantage came from its stronger silver-medal count, with 27 compared to Uzbekistan’s 25.

The final medal of the campaign therefore proved important not only as a hockey title but also in confirming India’s position among Asia’s leading sporting nations.

China once again finished at the top of the continental standings, producing a staggering 341 medals. The hosts collected 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals, giving them a total more than four times India’s overall haul. China’s 169 gold medals alone were eight times India’s total of 21.

Japan, competing on home soil, finished second with 269 medals. Its tally comprised 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze. South Korea completed the top three with 150 medals, including 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze. India’s fourth-place finish came despite the country winning fewer medals than it had at Hangzhou. The 85-medal haul remained comfortably ahead of fifth-placed Uzbekistan, which collected 70 medals overall.

India Hold Off Uzbekistan

The battle for fourth place was particularly close in terms of gold medals. India and Uzbekistan both finished with 21 gold medals, but India pulled clear because of its silver-medal advantage.

India’s medal distribution was 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, while Uzbekistan finished with 21 gold, 25 silver and 24 bronze. That two-medal advantage in silver was enough to settle the positions on the medal table, ensuring India remained fourth despite its lower overall medal count compared to Hangzhou.

Uzbekistan’s 70-medal total placed it 15 medals behind India. Iran and Thailand finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with both nations collecting 52 medals. Iran won 19 golds, while Thailand secured 18.

Kazakhstan finished eighth with 84 medals overall, one fewer than India despite winning only 12 gold medals. Its haul included 24 silver and 48 bronze medals. Hong Kong, China and Bahrain completed the top 10.

India’s men’s hockey team provided the final sporting chapter of the campaign. Its second successive Asian Games gold ensured that India finished the competition with a major team-sport title and added another gold to the country’s final tally. The achievement also meant hockey retained its place among India’s most reliable medal-winning disciplines at the Asian Games.

With the men’s team completing its campaign on top of the podium, India ended Aichi-Nagoya with 21 gold medals. The timing of the victory made the result particularly significant. As the final medal for India at the Games, the hockey gold effectively put the finishing touch on a campaign that had produced medals across a broad range of sports.

A Strong Second-Best Campaign

India’s final tally of 85 medals was below the 106 won at Hangzhou, but the country still recorded its second-best medal performance at the Asian Games. The 21 gold medals were also enough to keep India fourth in a highly competitive continental field. The final standings underline the scale of China’s dominance, with the host nation collecting 341 medals and 169 golds. Japan’s 269 medals placed it second, while South Korea’s 150 medals secured third.

For India, the key takeaway from Aichi-Nagoya is the combination of medal volume and its ability to remain ahead of Uzbekistan despite an identical gold count. The campaign ended where it began its final push: with hockey at the centre of the story. The men’s team retained its Asian Games crown, delivered India’s 21st gold medal and ensured that the country’s final medal of Aichi-Nagoya was also a gold.

India leaves Japan with 85 medals, 21 golds and fourth place in Asia a result below its record performance at Hangzhou, but still the country’s second-best medal haul at the continental Games.
