Asian Games 2026: India’s Recurve and Compound Mixed Teams Reach Semifinals

India enjoyed a strong outing in the mixed team events at the Asian Games 2026 archery competition, with both the recurve and compound combinations progressing to the semifinals.

Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod produced two successive 6-0 victories in the recurve mixed team event, while Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi followed a perfect opening performance with a quarterfinal victory in compound mixed team. Both Indian pairs have now secured places in the semifinals, giving the country two more medal opportunities in the archery competition.

The recurve mixed team pairing of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod began their knockout campaign against the United Arab Emirates in the round of 16. India produced a controlled performance to register a 6-0 victory.

Dhiraj and Kumkum scored 37 points out of 40 in each of the three sets, demonstrating impressive consistency throughout the contest. The UAE managed 35, 34 and 36 points respectively in the three sets, leaving India with a clear advantage. The victory sent the Indian pair into the quarterfinals, where they faced Vietnam.

Vietnam had entered the quarterfinal after defeating Iran 6-2 in its round-of-16 encounter.

India once again produced a dominant performance. Dhiraj and Kumkum defeated Vietnam 6-0, completing another clean sweep and booking their place in the semifinals. The two victories meant that the Indian recurve mixed team completed its work for the day. Dhiraj and Kumkum will return later for the men's and women's team events.

Compound Pair Start With a Perfect Score

The compound mixed team pairing of Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi also began its campaign in emphatic fashion. Facing Mongolia in the round of 16, the Indian duo produced a perfect score of 160 out of 160. Mongolia managed 146, leaving India with a commanding 14-point margin and a place in the quarterfinals.

The result was particularly notable for the consistency of the Indian pair, who did not drop a single point from their available total. India's quarterfinal opponent was Kazakhstan, which had also produced a perfect 160 in its round-of-16 victory over Chinese Taipei.

The quarterfinal presented a significantly tougher challenge for Sahil and Chikitha. The Indian pair responded with another high-quality performance, scoring 159 points to defeat Kazakhstan, which finished on 154. The 159-154 victory secured India's place in the compound mixed team semifinals.

The Indian duo will now face Thailand in the semifinal. After beginning the knockout stage with a perfect 160, Sahil and Chikitha maintained their consistency through the quarterfinal and moved one step closer to a medal.

The progress of both Indian mixed teams gives the country a strong presence in the semifinal stage. In recurve, Dhiraj and Kumkum have yet to drop a set in the knockout rounds. Their victories over the UAE and Vietnam both ended 6-0. In compound, Sahil and Chikitha have combined scores of 319 points across their two knockout matches, first producing a perfect 160 against Mongolia before scoring 159 against Kazakhstan.

The two Indian combinations will now face different challenges in the semifinals. The compound mixed team will face Thailand, while the recurve mixed team will take on Japan.

The semifinal and medal rounds are scheduled for September 30, giving both Indian pairs an opportunity to convert their strong knockout campaigns into medals.

India’s Archery Campaign Continues to Gather Momentum

The mixed team results add to an encouraging archery campaign for India at the Asian Games. Dhiraj Bommadevara had already topped the men's recurve individual qualification with 698 points, while Chikitha Taniparthi led the women's compound qualification with 705 points. Both athletes have now carried that strong individual form into the mixed team competition.

For Dhiraj, the recurve mixed team semifinal against Japan will provide another opportunity to build on his impressive campaign. For Chikitha, the compound mixed team contest against Thailand comes after an outstanding qualification performance and two strong knockout rounds. With both Indian mixed teams through to the semifinals, India has ensured that its presence in the archery medal rounds will continue.

The next challenge comes on September 30, when Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod face Japan in recurve, while Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi take on Thailand in compound. Both Indian pairs are now two victories away from gold and will enter the semifinal stage with momentum firmly on their side.
